Attn. Parents of high school seniors: GBREB Foundation Scholarship

The Greater Boston Real Estate Board has set up a foundation that provides scholarships ranging from $1,000 – $5,000 to high school seniors. Scholarships will be awarded this spring to students based on financial need, academic achievement, leadership, extracurricular involvement and short written essays.

The application deadline is April 1, 2012, with applications available here.

Celebrating Memorial Day in Lexington, MA and Beyond

As we celebrate the much anticipated yet unofficial start to summer this weekend, there are many wonderful ceremonies and parades to honor those who served this country! Here’s a look at the popular Discovery Day festival in Lexington and Memorial Day ceremonies and parades in surrounding towns.

Discovery Day in Lexington

Discovery Day will be held at the Muzzey Street/Waltham Street Municipal Parking Lot in Lexington Center on Saturday, May 28th from 10am – 3pm. Highlights include a street fair and sidewalk sale throughout the day, and an outdoor concert by the local Beatles cover band Nowheremen at 3:30pm at Depot Square. The event includes over 70 local businesses and retailers. Local restaurants will also be on hand offering everything from sandwiches to pasta to ice cream!

Lexington, MA Memorial Day Parade

On Monday, May 30th the Memorial Day parade begins at 1557 Massachusetts Avenue (next to the police station) at 10am and will proceed through Lexington Center with several stops for commemorative wreath placement.

Arlington, MA Memorial Day Parade

On Monday, May 30, the Arlington parade will begin at 9:30am at Adams Street on Massachusetts Avenue and continue on to Monument Park in Arlington Center for observances and placing of wreathes.

Concord, MA  (home to more than 1,000 veterans!) Ceremony and Parade

On Monday the Concord morning ceremony assembles at Rideout Field on Laws Brook Road at 8:30am and proceeds to Kenneth Dunn Square for the flag raising and brief ceremony at 9am. At 11:30am, the parade re-assembles at Garrison/Ash Street for the afternoon ceremonies. The parade proceeds first to St. Bernard’s and Sleepy Hollow Cemeteries.
